I DON’T HAVE TIME!

We’re all cramped for time. How do we make the most of it?

I’m reading quite an insightful book right now by Rachel Bertsche: The Kids Are in Bed, which discusses the mind-boggling concept of parents not having enough time to fit it all in.

“It” being work, sleep, exercise, leisure, home responsibilities and socializing, all under the parenting umbrella.

On some level, we all struggle with the concept of time. Whether we feel like we don’t have enough of it due to demanding careers and unruly children, or too much of it as is often the case of a stay-at-home parent, finding adequate time to do things for ourselves –outside of parenting really is grappling.

Sometimes a Secretary, Always a Mom

Yesterday, I spent the entire day making appointments. I was on the phone with my old doctor, my new doctor, Cy’s new pediatrician, the exterminator, a house cleaning service, our previous landlord, and four different preschools.

Productive? Yes. Fun? Not so much.

When Cy fell asleep late afternoon, giving me the perfect pocket of time to write, I almost felt too drained to do it.

Unless you’re making the decision to wake up at 4 or 5 am every day — to get a workout in and/or be with yourself for one, full, glorious hour — you will always feel like you’re fighting for time.

I recommend the book, and I recommend waking up early to remind yourself that you are you before you are mom.

XOXO,

Ash
